My column counterpart and friend of four years, Diane Glass, died today. This has been a very difficult month, as Diane only learned that she had cancer 5 weeks ago, and because the family wanted to respect her privacy, we couldn’t really share with others all that was going on. Even though those of us who cared about her were hurting with her, and her family. Yesterday, however, it became public knowledge, as her ‘farewell column’ ran in the AJC and dozens of other papers. The giant ICRS convention every year is one of the highlights of my year. It is when all the people in the Christian publishing world get together in one place and have a giant convention where all the publishers and other exhibiters show their new product line for the fall season. All the buyers come and walk around and look at what is coming out in the next few months to determine what is going to be at the top of their list or what they are going to promote to the consumer.

Jeff and I dropped the kids off with their grandparents, my parents, and flew to Fresno, California in the middle of a heat wave. Fresno is in the desert in northern California and when we got off the plane, it was 111 degrees Fahrenheit! We went to this absolutely fabulous church called ‘The Well’ to do a relationship conference together.

The thing that was so cool about this Church is that the average age in this Church of over a thousand people is 25, which is so exciting to us because even though we are a few years older than that - Aha - actually more than a few years older than that, we hear all the time from people who hear the findings about how men are wired or about how the women are wired and they say “How we wish we had been able to hear this before we got married” or “I wish I’d learned this when I was dating.”
